Crypto accounting
Cryptio
A hosted digital-asset subledger and data platform that reconciles wallets, exchanges and custodians and syncs journal entries into the ERP.
cryptio.co · founded 2018 · New York, NY (per LinkedIn); French origins (Alven, Point Nine among early investors) · researched 2026-10-10
- Scope
- Cryptio ingests data from more than 150 blockchains, exchanges, custodians and DeFi protocols with its own nodes and indexers, labels transactions, values them, computes cost basis (FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, WAC) and produces GAAP and IFRS reports. It syncs journal entries into Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite natively, and maps to Oracle, SAP, Sage, Dynamics and Workday. It has added reconciliation, fund administration, loan management and an 'Intelligence' toolkit of deterministic agents. It is not a general ledger, does not handle fiat bookkeeping, and is cloud-only.
- Backing
- About $70M raised in total (careers page, 2026-10). $25M Series A total, including a $15M extension led by Alven (blog post dated 2025-01-29). $45M Series B co-led by BlackFin Capital Partners and Sentinel Global, with 1kx, Alven, BlueYard and Ledger Cathay Capital (2026-03-13).
- Serves
- mid-market, enterprise, accountants
- Covers
- crypto, ledger, close, reporting, tax, integration
- To ownpurse
- Design cousin. A subledger that sits beside the ERP and treats wallets as a source next to the books, which is the same shape as ownpurse beside Xero. It keeps the raw chain data and reconciles it against the ledger. But it holds that data itself, in its cloud, for institutions.
What it is
Cryptio is a hosted data and back-office platform for digital assets. It started as a crypto subledger and has grown into what it calls a suite of ERP applications for regulated institutions (home). It was founded in 2018 (LinkedIn) and is led by founder and CEO Antoine Scalia. At its Series B on 2026-03-13 it reported more than 400 enterprise customers in over 30 countries and more than $3 trillion in transactions processed (Series B). Customers include Circle, Gemini, Paxos, Securitize and Uniswap.
How it works
Cryptio runs its own nodes and indexers instead of scraping explorers. It connects to about 107 live chains, about 39 exchanges and 15 custodians (integrations). Transactions are labelled, valued and given a cost basis (FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, WAC), then turned into journal entries with an audit trail. Those entries sync into Xero, QuickBooks or NetSuite with one click, and map to Oracle, SAP and others (accounting). It produces more than 50 GAAP and IFRS reports. Modules cover reconciliation, data integrity (a proof of completeness for auditors), fund administration and loan management. It holds SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II reports, audited by PwC.
Data and access
The public API is REST with a key per workspace. It mirrors the UI: you can create and refresh sources, create and apply labels, and list transactions with filters. The page does not cover rate limits, pagination or export formats. A fuller “programmatic access layer” is still marked coming soon. Pricing is by quote with modules and add-ons; you can pay by card, wire or in crypto.
Agents
Cryptio’s Intelligence toolkit is described as “deterministic agents for close and regulatory workflows”. Reconciliation runs on deterministic SQL. An agent investigates why a reconciliation broke. Pattern matching groups unlabelled transactions and proposes labels with confidence scores, which the team actions in bulk. Close journeys enforce the order of steps (categorise before reconcile), and every step is logged with who did it. No MCP server or agent-facing documentation was found.
Customers
Its market is institutions: stablecoin issuers, exchanges, asset managers, banks, miners and token issuers. More than 50 accounting and audit firms work with it as partners. The customer quotes on its site stress scale: Uniswap went “from 12 tokens to 5,000+ across 9 blockchains”. G2 and Capterra could not be reached, so no rating is given here.
History
Cryptio integrated with Xero in October 2021 and launched the Ionic platform in November 2021, with 10+ chains then. A $15M Series A extension led by Alven brought the Series A to $25M (the post is dated 2025-01-29). A $45M Series B followed in March 2026. Its careers page lists about $70M raised and about 120 people.
For ownpurse
Cryptio has the same shape as ownpurse: a record beside the ledger that keeps the raw source (here, chains) and reconciles it against the books. Its stance on AI is also close: a deterministic core, with proposals a person accepts. The difference is who holds the raw data. Here it is the vendor, in its cloud, at institutional prices. Worth borrowing: confidence-scored proposals actioned in bulk, close steps in a fixed order, and a completeness proof per source. For a small owner with wallets, ownpurse can do what Cryptio does for Circle, against a file they hold.
Data and access
- Public API
- Yes. REST; the API mirrors the web UI (anything in one can be done in the other)
- Auth
- API key created per workspace
- Limits
- Not documented on the getting-started page
- What access costs
- Included with a paid workspace as far as found; pricing is by quote. No metering terms found.
- Export
- More than 50 GAAP and IFRS reports and reporting packs; journal entries sync to ERPs. A general bulk raw export was not documented.
- Notes
- Endpoints described: sources (create, status, update, delete), labels (create, query, apply) and transactions (list with filters). The reference was last updated 2025-11-06. A broader 'programmatic access layer' is listed as coming soon.
Price
- Model
- Quote-based plans with modules and add-ons; enterprise proof of concept
- Entry
- Not published; a free consultation to recommend modules
- Top
- Enterprise plan with a customized proof of concept, not published
- Notes
- Accepts card, bank transfer, wire (USD, EUR, GBP), BTC, ETH and stablecoins. No prices or transaction limits are shown (checked 2026-10-10).
Agents
- MCP
- none
- AI features
- The Intelligence toolkit has seven tools: CoA benchmark, policy generator, principal market analysis, financial statement builder, reconciliation workflows, unlabelled transaction analysis and month-end close journeys. An 'agentic investigation model' finds the root causes of reconciliation breaks, and pattern matching proposes confidence-scored labels. The core is deterministic SQL.
- Agent writes
- Inside the product, agents propose labels and investigations; external agents can create sources and apply labels through the API.
- Approval
- Yes, in product: confidence-scored labels are actioned by the team, data-integrity checks use maker-checker approvals, and close journeys enforce the order of steps. No gate is described for writes through the API.
- Notes
- 'Deterministic by design and expert-reviewed' is the pitch: AI layered on a deterministic, auditable core. This is close in spirit to 'agents propose; people post', but inside a hosted product.
Integration and customers
- Connects to
- About 107 live blockchains (15 more coming), about 39 exchanges, 15 custodians (Anchorage, BitGo, Fireblocks, Copper, Zodia and others), staking providers; native ERP sync to QuickBooks, NetSuite and Xero; others listed include Dynamics 365, Oracle Fusion, SAP, Sage, Workday and Request Finance (logo counts, 2026-10-10)
- Notes
- Runs its own nodes and indexers rather than scraping explorers. Xero integration since 2021-10.
- Scale
- More than 400 enterprises in over 30 countries and more than $3 trillion in transactions processed (Series B post, 2026-03-13); more than 50 accounting, audit and advisory partner firms; about 120 people (careers page, 2026-10)
- Ratings
- G2 and Capterra pages blocked; no rating confirmed
- What customers say
- Customer quotes on its site emphasize scale (Uniswap went 'from 12 tokens to 5,000+ across 9 blockchains') and audit readiness. SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II, audited by PwC. No independent review data was confirmed.

Borrow and avoid
- Borrow
- A deterministic core with AI on top; proposals with confidence scores that a person actions in bulk; close steps in a fixed order; a proof-of-completeness check that the data covers every source; running its own indexers rather than trusting third-party explorers; an API that mirrors the UI one to one.
- Avoid
- Holding the only raw copy in the vendor's cloud; a narrow API with the real programmatic layer still 'coming soon'; prices by quote only, which shuts out small owners.
